Summary
Job Overview
-The Handy/Porter is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and smooth day-to-day operation of the site. This role involves carrying out general maintenance, waste management, portering support, and reactive tasks while ensuring high standards of health, safety, and service delivery are maintained at all times. The post holder will work independently and as part of a wider facilities team, providing practical support to NHS staff, engineers, and contractors.
Main Duties
-Put bins out at 06:30 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
-Complete routine flushing tasks on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
-Manage clinical waste in line with procedures (Friday)
-Carry out gritting duties as required, responding to weather conditions ❄️
-Complete portering checks in accordance with agreed checklists
-Receive, sort, and distribute deliveries to the correct locations
-Transport equipment and materials between sites as required
-Collect mops from other sites, arrange cleaning, and return them to sites
-Assist with cleaning and general site support duties as required
-Drive company vehicles in line with policy and licence requirements
-Respond promptly to all reactive maintenance and facilities tasks
-Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs to fixtures, fittings, doors, and furniture
-Apply basic trade skills, including minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work
-Use hand tools and power tools safely and appropriately
-Support engineers and contractors on site
-Assist with permits to work and contractor inductions
-Maintain accurate records of work completed and activities undertaken
-Communicate effectively with NHS staff, contractors, and company representatives
-Maintain a strong awareness of health and safety at all times
-Work independently using own initiative and collaboratively as part of a team
-Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills
