We are currently recruiting for an experienced Chef/Kitchen Assistant to work for our client based in Nottingham area.
Job Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible, and reliable Chef/Kitchen Assistant to support the delivery of high-quality catering services across school sites in Nottingham. This varied role combines food preparation, cooking, and general kitchen support to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient catering operation, delivering nutritious meals and a positive dining experience for pupils and staff.
Key Responsibilities of Chef/Kitchen Assistant:
• Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of meals in line with menu specifications and nutritional standards
• Support the smooth day-to-day running of the catering service, including basic supervision where required
• Assist with menu preparation, food production, and portion control to minimise waste
• Support ordering, stock rotation, and inventory control in line with catering procedures
• Carry out general kitchen assistant duties (washing, peeling, cleaning, dishwashing, and basic food prep)
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across kitchen, equipment, and dining areas
• Ensure compliance with all food hygiene, allergen awareness, and health & safety regulations
• Follow catering policies and procedures, including safe food storage, handling, and temperature checks
• Complete basic records, including food safety logs and operational checks
• Deliver excellent customer service and promote a positive catering experience for students and staff
• Assist in setting up and clearing dining areas where required
• Provide cover and support across multiple school sites as needed
Working Hours: 30 hours per week
Requirements of Chef/Kitchen Assistant:
• Enhanced DBS
• Previous experience in a catering, cook, or kitchen environment
• Knowledge of food hygiene standards and allergen regulations
• Understanding of large-scale or contract catering
• Good organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Flexible and reliable approach to work
• Positive attitude with strong customer service skills
