Summary
Job Purpose
To support and care for people who need help with daily living, including elderly people, children, and those with illness or disabilities.
To lead and supervise care staff during shifts and ensure high-quality care is provided at all times.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervise and support care workers, care assistants, and home carers on duty
• Take responsibility for the shift and ensure the service runs safely and smoothly
• Respond to emergencies and give guidance and support to staff
• Help service users with personal care such as:
o Dressing and undressing
o Washing, bathing, and using the toilet
o Serve meals and assist with feeding where needed
o Support the comfort, dignity, and wellbeing of service users
o Provide activities and engagement to keep service users active and interested
• Help service users with daily tasks such as:
o Writing letters
o Paying bills
o Collecting benefits
• Carry out light cleaning and domestic duties, including preparing meals
• Monitor service users’ health by checking:
o Temperature
o Pulse
o Breathing
o Weight
• Keep accurate records and report any concerns
• Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and care policies
• Respect confidentiality and dignity of service users
• Work as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues and managers
PERSON SPECIFICATION (SKILL, QUALIFACTION, EXPERIENCE):
Person Specification
• NVQ Level 3 (or working towards it) in Health and Social Care
• Experience working in a care setting
• Ability to supervise and support other staff
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Caring, patient, and respectful attitude
• Willingness to provide personal care
• Ability to respond calmly in emergencies
• Basic record-keeping skills
• Previous experience as a Senior Care Worker
• Additional training in care (e.g. dementia care, medication handling)
• Nursing or health-related background
• Willing to register with the relevant regulatory body (if required)
• Enhanced DBS check (required before starting work)
• Flexible to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
