The Job:
A modern broiler operation in North Yorkshire is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with poultry or livestock experience to develop their career within a well-run commercial farm environment. Working closely with the Farm Manager, you will support the day-to-day running of the unit, ensuring high standards of bird welfare, biosecurity, and production performance. This is a practical, hands-on role covering all aspects of broiler production and farm management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily operation of the broiler unit, including feeding, watering, ventilation, and lighting systems.
- Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, air quality) to ensure optimal bird growth and welfare.
- Conduct daily flock inspections to monitor bird health and behaviour, reporting any concerns promptly.
- Support vaccination schedules and medication programmes, maintaining high animal welfare standards.
- Maintain strict biosecurity and hygiene procedures, including cleaning, disinfection, site access, and pest control.
- Support supervision of farm staff by allocating tasks, assisting with training, and ensuring safe, efficient work.
- Monitor production performance by recording key data: feed intake, water consumption, bird weights, feed conversion ratios, and mortality levels.
- Help manage feed stocks, farm supplies, equipment maintenance, and compliance with health and safety procedures.
The Candidate:
- Experience in poultry production or strong livestock farming background.
- Practical, reliable, and comfortable in a hands-on farm environment.
- Good understanding of animal health and welfare, with the ability to monitor flock performance and maintain accurate records.
- Poultry Passport (completed or working towards) advantageous.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team.
