Your new company
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to support the effective financial management, monitoring, and reporting of a varied portfolio of projects. This role is ideal for someone looking to build or continue an accounting career within a collaborative finance environment, gaining exposure to project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit activity.

Your new role
Working as part of a supportive finance team, you will assist with the day-to-day financial administration and control of project and departmental finances. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, timely invoicing and claims, and compliance with internal procedures and external funding requirements.This is a hands-on role requiring strong attention to detail, good organisational skills, and the confidence to work with a range of stakeholders, including non-finance colleagues.

Key Duties

  • Assist with the preparation of invoices, financial claims, and supporting documentation
  • Monitor income and expenditure against budgets, identifying variances and potential issues
  • Maintain accurate financial records within the finance system, ensuring data quality and completeness
  • Support month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations and reporting
  • Assist with forecasting and budgeting activities for projects and cost centres
  • Help coordinate internal and external audits by preparing financial evidence and responding to queries
  • Respond to routine financial queries from colleagues and external contacts
  • Support continuous improvement of financial processes and reporting
  • Undertake other finance-related duties in line with the role and team priorities

What you'll need to succeed
You will be a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a genuine interest in financial management and accounting. You enjoy working with data, resolving queries, and supporting others with clear financial information.

  • Studying towards a professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA or similar)
  • Experience working in a finance or accounts environment
  • Good understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Experience using financial systems and Excel
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues
  • Experience supporting budgets, forecasts, or project accounting
  • Experience in a complex or multi-project environment
