Deputy Headteacher Sixth Form

(Job Ref: REDL01)

Our Vision: A specialist SEND community inspiring Rochdale and beyond

We are looking for a kind and dedicated leader, who enjoys working with young people, to join us at Redwood School. Our new Deputy Head for Sixth Form will be passionate about SEND and inclusion and will have unconditional positive regard for all our learners and stakeholders.

Redwood is a large special school for learners with a wide range of complex SEND from 11-19. This is an exciting time for Redwood; demand for places is high and we are continuing to grow and develop our offer, including at Post 16. We are anticipating having over 400 learners in September 2026, with around 123 in Sixth Form.

At Redwood, our Sixth Form is broad, and you will have the opportunity to bring together our broad offer across different sites and provisions. This includes our most complex at Hudson’s Walk, our Sixth Form Campuses at Heywood and Middleton, and our Real Work Project. You will be able to lead and motivate staff and make a real difference to the lives of our incredible and diverse children and young people, making them as independent as possible and prepared for adult life.

You will work as part of an experienced leadership team, including with the Headteacher, 2 other Deputy Heads, Assistant Heads, our Extended Schools Coordinator and the School Business Manager. Together with our skilled and committed staff, we are moving the school towards our shared vision to be a ‘specialist SEND community inspiring Rochdale and beyond’. You will have a real opportunity to make a difference, both within school and across the borough.

To be successful at Redwood, you will need to have the skills and attributes to take people with you, whilst being committed to ongoing research to ensure that Redwood continues to develop and demonstrate the very best SEND and inclusive practice.

The successful candidate will be required to commence work September 2026 or earlier.

If you require any further information about the role or would like to book in a visit to the school, please contact Michelle Ashcroft by e-mailing info@redwood-school.com

To apply for this position please download the application form and supporting documentation and send completed applications to vacancies@redwood-school.com by 11:59pm on Thursday 14th May 2026. Your letter of application, using the Person Specification, is a maximum of 3 sides with a minimum font size of 11.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring and background check.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and service users and provide advice in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement of this post.

The school will carry out an online search as part of their due-diligence for all shortlisted candidates in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025.
