SEND Specialist Tutor - Spennymoor
Here at Prospero Teaching we work closely with local SEND teams and Schools across the North East. Right now, we are looking for Specialist Tutors who have experience supporting students 1:1 or in small group sessions with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Spennymoor
The Opportunity
We are looking for SEND tutors who can plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons that meet the diverse needs of each individual student. Your background might include tutoring or classroom experience-either way, your existing skills should be adaptable to a focused 1:1 learning environment.
Tuition is typically scheduled for a set number of hours each week, ranging from 1 to 15 hours, and is ideally delivered during school hours. Tutors are also expected to complete a detailed weekly report to track progress, review achievements, and ensure each student remains on course to meet their targets.
Contract/Position Details:
- Location - Spennymoor
- Position - SEND Specialist Tutor
- Type of work - Contract
- Start date - ASAP
- Setting - either within the student's home or in the community (learning hub/library)
- Duration - Until the pupil is able to find a suitable school placement
- Contract type - Temporary
- Full-time/part-time availability, ranging from 6-15hours p/w per student
- Rate of pay - up to £30 per hour (negotiable)
Your role with us:
- Support students with SEND through individual and small group sessions, developing self-confidence, independence, practical life skills, community awareness, and basic food preparation.
- Plan and deliver bespoke learning activities that meet individual needs and close gaps in learning.
- Assess and review learner progress on an ongoing basis, sharing clear and constructive feedback with students and their families.
- Establish a calm, positive, and inclusive learning space that encourages engagement and restores confidence in education.
- Record daily attendance accurately and complete structured weekly reports in line with requirements.
Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:
- Children related/Education qualification
- Possess UK classroom teaching experience
- Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
- Have experience working with students with SEND including ASD, ADHD, GLD and challenging behaviours
To be eligible for this role, the potential SEND Specialist Tutor must:
IND-SEN
- Hold the right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
