Post Title: Senior Lecturer – Primary Maths Lead (Maternity Cover)
SBU/Department: School of Law and Education
FTE: 1 FTE (37 hours per week)
Duration of Contract: Fixed term contract for 12 months (September 2026 – August 2027)
Salary: UH8 £46,049 to £58,225 by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience.
Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: De Havilland Campus, Hatfield
Main duties and responsibilities
The postholder will provide high quality teaching, research and module leadership across Primary Maths programmes which lead to Qualified Teacher Status, providing pastoral and academic support for students. The Senior Lecturer will play an important role as part of a team incorporating the Head of Department, Programme Leader, the professional and technical staff, the Dean of School and the Associate Deans of School. The postholder will have responsibility for teaching and research into the development of the subject.
Skill and experience required
We are seeking a candidate with recent, relevant teaching and leadership experience in Maths at primary level in the UK, combined with proven involvement in Ofsted inspection activity, either in schools or within the Initial Teacher Training sector. You will bring strong subject knowledge, the ability to lead curriculum development, and excellent communication skills to present complex ideas with clarity to a range of audiences. Highly organised and confident in planning and using IT effectively, you will be able to manage competing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team. You will have a clear understanding of the educational needs of students, an appreciation of their prior learning experiences, and the ability to foster positive working relationships. Experience in higher education teaching, research, or service evaluation would be an advantage.
Qualifications required
You will hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) in a relevant discipline, and either a Postgraduate qualification (e.g. Master's or PhD in a relevant field), or substantial and demonstrable professional experience. UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential, and Fellowship of Advance HE would be a welcome addition.
