As a Maintenance Officer (Water and Pressure) in our Estates and Facilities team, you’ll play a vital role in keeping hospital water and pressure systems safe, compliant, and reliable. Your work will help protect patients, colleagues, and visitors while supporting frontline clinical services every day.
Working across a busy hospital estate, this role has real purpose. By maintaining critical infrastructure and ensuring compliance with water safety and pressure systems regulations, you’ll help create a safe environment where healthcare can thrive and communities can rely on essential services.

Key Responsibilities
Compliance, Governance & Documentation
- Act as the formally Appointed Person (Water) in writing.
- Ensure compliance with HTM 04‑01 Parts A, B & C, Water Regulations, and ACOP L8.
- Maintain and update all water safety documentation.
- Prepare compliance reports for senior management, the Water Safety Group, and the Trust.Water System Safety & Operational Management
- Oversee safe operation of all hot and cold-water systems.
- Ensure control measures such as monitoring, flushing, and sampling are completed.
- Approve system isolations, commissioning, and reinstatement.Pressure Systems & Mechanical Plant
· Inspect, test, and maintain pressure vessels, booster sets, heating/chilled water systems, and compressors.
· Support statutory inspections per PSSR.
· Diagnose and repair mechanical equipment.
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage and supervise water hygiene contractors.
- Liaise with RP-Water, IPC, AE-Water, and the NHS Trust.Working Relationships
Interfaces with DP-Water, APs, IPC, AE-Water, and contractors

· Compliance & Documentation
§ Maintain accurate statutory compliance records.
§ Ensure safe systems of work including permits, RAMS.
§ Support audits and inspections.

· Reactive & Planned Maintenance
§ Complete PPM tasks on time.
§ Respond to urgent breakdowns across the estate.
§ Maintain plant rooms and service areas safely

Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- A mechanical engineering qualification and proven experience in mechanical maintenance
- Sound knowledge of water safety management and pressure systems regulations, including Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR)
- Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments, ideally within healthcare or PFI settings
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider engineering team
Vetting and checks: This role requires membership of the PVG Scheme, which involves a detailed check of spent and unspent convictions and other relevant information to ensure safeguarding compliance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can provide any necessary support to help you carry out your responsibilities.
