The Opportunity
Barnsley College is seeking a committed and proactive Classroom Support Practitioner to join our Engineering department. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the learner experience by supporting high quality teaching and maintaining a positive, well managed classroom environment.
Working alongside Teachers, you will play a key role in ensuring lessons run smoothly and efficiently. You will support classroom organisation, student engagement and positive behaviour, helping learners remain focused, productive and ready to progress. This position does not replace a teacher or specialist Learning Support role but provides essential in class operational and behavioural support that enables Teachers to focus on effective delivery of learning.
Your responsibilities will include preparing learning spaces and resources, assisting with group work and transitions, supporting individual learners or small groups, and promoting positive behaviour in line with College expectations. You will also provide basic administrative support within lessons, such as distributing materials, supporting attendance processes and assisting with assessment related tasks.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people, contributing to a safe and structured learning environment, and working collaboratively as part of an experienced classroom team.
About You
We are looking for a positive, calm and learner focused individual with experience working with young people or learners in an educational or support setting.
You will have strong communication skills, the ability to build effective relationships with learners and colleagues, and the confidence to support classroom activities under the direction of a Teacher. You will bring a proactive approach, the ability to manage behaviour positively and professionally, and the flexibility to respond to the needs of learners in a fast paced environment.
Strong organisational abilities, good teamwork skills and a commitment to safeguarding are essential. You will be motivated, enthusiastic and able to adapt to change while maintaining high standards of support.

• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 qualification
• Experience working with young people or learners in an educational or support setting
• Ability to manage behaviour calmly and positively
