Summary
Responsibilities Perform venepuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages, including paediatrics. Ensure the correct identification of patients and labelling of specimens to maintain accuracy. Maintain aseptic technique throughout all procedures to prevent infection. Prepare samples for laboratory analysis and ensure proper handling and transportation. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide excellent patient care and support. Educate patients on the blood collection process, addressing any concerns or questions they may have. Adhere to health and safety regulations while working in a hospital or laboratory environment. Keep accurate records of procedures performed and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Participate in training sessions to stay updated on best practices in phlebotomy and related medical fields. Requirements Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or in a similar role within a hospital or clinical setting is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support techniques. Familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment used in blood collection is advantageous. Ability to catheterise patients when necessary, demonstrating proficiency in various techniques. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues alike. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care. Certification in phlebotomy or relevant training is desirable but not mandatory for applicants willing to undergo training
