About the Department
To develop and implement the Council's strategy on risk management as part of the Council's approach to continuous service improvement to ensure delivery of its priorities and value to residents. To provide clear information to support the future development of the risk management service to enable the Council to meet its future challenges.
To provide professional leadership and support to senior leadership and departmental management in respect of the Council's risk management arrangements and the management of the Council's Financial Assurance, Internal Audit, Risk and Insurance Team.
Lead by example in modelling and embedding the Council's values and behaviours to help build a sustainable highly effective organisation and develop our reputation as a successful council delivering great value for its residents.
Provide outstanding leadership and direction to the risk management service, driving service transformation and ensuring excellent joint working with Members and other stakeholders.
About the Role
As a Risk Manager you would be responsible for
- Working with the Head of Financial Assurance, Internal Audit, Risk and Insurance to develop and pro-actively implement the Council's strategy on risk management. Provide clear information to support the future development of the service to enable the council to meet its future challenges within a culture of continuous improvement.
- Providing a proactive advisory role in terms of operational risk management to all groups within the Council, promoting not only best practise but a consistent approach to risk and reporting.
- To horizon scan the changing political, statutory, regulatory and economic environment in which the Council and partner organisations operate and advise senior leaders as appropriate of the risk or business impact accordingly.
What We're Looking For
Substantial experience of working successfully at a strategic level within a risk management environment
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive and productive relationships that gain the trust, respect and confidence of the public, staff, operational leaders, elected members, partners and other stakeholders.
The confidence and knowledge to provide authoritative advice to staff and elected members on complex risk matters.
Essential Qualifications: Relevant professional qualification: Institute of Risk Management or equivalent experience.
