Summary
Relief Live-in-Carer
Relief position to cover holidays and any possible sickness cover.
Females only need apply as permitted under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
7 hours per day.
Day rate of £150 per day.
This role is for an immediate start.
Travel to this role is subject to negotiation.
Includes all accommodation, with private bedroom and shower room.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing to understand care plans and complete records accurately
Position overview
The live-in-carer will provide full-time support to a wheelchair-dependent lady within her home. The role focuses on maintaining dignity, independence, comfort, and safety while assisting with daily living activities and companionship.
Key responsibilities
1. Personal care
• Assist with all aspects of personal hygiene (washing, bathing, oral care, grooming)
• Support with dressing and undressing
• Assist with toileting and continence care
• Support with repositioning to prevent sores
• Apply creams or medications (as directed)
2. Mobility & transfers
• Safely assist with transfers (bed <> wheelchair, wheelchair <> toilet, etc.)
• Use mobility aids and equipment (e.g., hoist, transfer board) if required
• Ensure correct positioning for comfort and health
• Monitor and report any mobility changes
• Support with communication difficulties and problems with balance
3. Medication Support
• Prompt or administer medication as prescribed
• Maintain accurate medication records
• Monitor for side effects or concerns and report appropriately
4. Meal Preparation & Nutrition
• Prepare nutritious meals based on dietary needs and preferences
• Assist with eating and drinking if required
• Ensure kitchen cleanliness and food safety
5. Household Duties
• Maintain a clean and safe living environment
• Light housekeeping (laundry, ironing, tidying, cleaning)
• Shopping for groceries and essentials
• Managing household supplies
6. Companionship & Emotional support
• Provide friendly companionship and conversation
• Encourage hobbies, activities and social interaction
• Support emotional wellbeing and independence
• Accompany to appointments or outings when needed
7. Health Monitoring
• Observe and report any changes in physical or mental health
• Monitor skin integrity (especially pressure areas)
• Record daily notes (care logs, incidents, concerns)
• Liaise with family members and health care professionals.
8. Safety and wellbeing
• Ensure a safe home environment at all times
• Follow moving & handling guidelines
• Be aware of emergency procedures
• Promote dignity, respect, and privacy
Working Arrangements
• Live-in role with agreed rest periods and time off
• On-call support may be required during the night
• Accommodation and meals provided
Essential skills & experience
• Experience in personal care, ideally with wheelchair users
• Knowledge of moving and handling techniques
• Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work independently and responsibly
Desirable qualifications
• NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & social care (or equivalent)
• Manual Handling training
• First aid training
• Experience with hoists or specialist equipment
