Summary
Participates in peer review/feedback and actively contributes to the provision of an effective learning environment. Actively participate in the induction of new staff in accordance with Trust policy and when required act as a 'buddy', assessor/supervisor and resource. Provide opportunities for junior colleagues to assess their work and to provide them with clear, sensitive, and appropriate feedback that will help them improve and develop. Actively participates in student placements and staff training. Ability to work as part of a team and support development of others. Mentoring, supporting and educating others. Lead wound care training, support and supervision on tissue viability and wound care subjects in the integrated service team, ensuring team training needs are met whilst working closely with the Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist Assess and maintain the tissue viability skills and competencies of their team. Support students in their learning and development. Promote an open reflective learning culture. Ensure new staff receive a proper induction regarding tissue viability and wound care so that they understand acceptable practice and standards. Actively support other teams in the department when needed so that those teams can deliver high standards of care. Use reflective practice to analyse incidents and events and to develop high quality care. Lead on investigations into pressure ulcers that have deteriorated since admission to the service and discuss at review panels as required whilst working closely with the Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist. Participates in tissue viability initiatives and groups at a local and trust level to aid in the development of professional practice; this will include embracing innovations and proposing changes to practice. Initiates policy and practice changes as a result of incidents, audits and complaints. Provide management responsibility for the team in partnership with the integrated senior clinical team lead (Band 7). This may include annual leave management; sickness' / absence management; performance management, training and development, appraisals, incident and complaints management. Deputise for the Integrated Senior Clinical Team Lead/s (Band 7) as required. Provide clinical education and supervision in tissue viability for staff directed by the Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse. Ensure that staff they line managing receive yearly appraisal and development plans in partnership with the Integrated Clinical lead. Proactive involvement in tissue viability audit in response to identified needs. Provide proactive leadership for the team, ensuring they share a vision for their teams and organisation, and understand their role in achieving this. Take an active role in promoting the interests and philosophy of the Department. Ensure that equipment is used in the approved manner and is kept in good condition so that resources are used effectively and efficiently Ensure systems of risk assessment and management are in place and functioning effectively. Support team in identifying and minimising stress in a stressful environment, and through periods of change. Building and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders Ensure effective management of own and team tissue viability caseload. Responsible for safe use of equipment and ensuring frequent checks are taken. Ensures self and colleagues are trained and competent to use equipment safely. Responsible ensuring system in place to check stock levels. Responsible for signing time sheets for Junior staff as required. Provides and receives complex, sensitive information to patients/relatives and colleagues and with empathy, persuasion and reassurance and ensure information is clearly understood, where there maybe barriers to understanding. Actively listens, drawing out information and checks understanding. Empathises with others and considers their needs and feelings. Able to deal with frequent emotional or distressing circumstances. Dexterity required for intravenous and intramuscular injections, inserting catheters, setting up syringe drivers, removal of sutures, wound management. Frequently moves /lifts patients. Care of patients/clients with chronic illness/conditions, terminally ill and deaths. Ability to travel across Trust sites as required. Frequent exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions i.e. body fluids/verbal aggressions/foul linen/ emptying bed pans, catheter bags.
