Summary
Location: York (City Centre)
Pay Rate: £13.00 per hour (Day rate) Sleep-in allowance (£95.50 per night)
Hours: Part-time, one or two nights per week. Typical shifts: 5:00 PM – 9:00 AM, including
overnight. Some additional day hours to support activities. Week days and weekends
required.

The Role
Are you a calm, resilient, and proactive individual with a passion for theatre? We are looking for
a male Personal Assistant to support a 29-year-old living in his own flat in York.
He is a huge fan of musical theatre and lives with Autism, Pathological Demand Avoidance
profile (PDA), ADHD, and Epilepsy. Due to his specific support needs we are seeking a male PA
who can provide a calm, confident and consistent presence able to manage challenging
dynamics with insight and empathy.
Key Responsibilities
● Overnight Support: Providing a safe environment throughout the night (sleep-in).
● Community Engagement: Supporting activities such as going to the theatre, ushering,
exercise, swimming, work experience and dog walking.
● Promoting independence and well-being: Supporting with shopping, meal preparation
and daily living activities; providing emotional support.
● Personal Care: Providing some assistance with personal care and hygiene routines.
● Behavioural Support: Able to de-escalate using appropriate techniques to manage
demand avoidance and challenging behaviours, assessing risks and ensuring safety.
● Medical Support: Medication administration and seizure recording
● Outings and Appointments: Accompanying, supporting and documenting
What We Are Looking For
● Experience: Strong experience supporting individuals with Autism, ADHD, and PDA,
with the ability to respond effectively to challenging behaviours. The role requires
confidence in maintaining consistent boundaries, even when faced with refusals.
Relevant lived experience, including supporting family members or friends with similar
needs, will be considered.
● Personality: You should be firm but fair, with a great sense of humour and a thick skin.
A genuine interest in theatre is a massive plus!
● Flexibility: The ability to cover at short notice is highly valued.
● Supporting Change: Willing to embrace new challenges and instill confidence
● Resilience: Ability to remain calm and demonstrate good decision making in difficult
situations.
● Driver: A car driver with their own vehicle (willing to provide transport) would be an
advantage but is not a requirement.
● Commitment: Excellent communication and engagement with the role (including
monthly team meetings) is essential. Reliable and trustworthy with a strong work ethic.
● Literacy Skills: Commitment to reading, understanding and recording medical and
behavioural records and supporting documentation.
● IT Skills: Confidence using phone apps and ability to complete work related tasks on a
laptop.
● Local: We are hoping for at least one York-based PA.
