Summary
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The Complementary Therapist provides holistic palliative care treatments
to hospice patients and their families, ensuring comfort and well-being
during their time at the hospice.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the therapist supports both
clinical and emotional needs through tailored treatments.
This role enhances the patient experience by promoting relaxation, pain
relief, and improved emotional health, contributing directly to the quality
of care the hospice offers.
DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY:
Autonomously provide palliative care complementary therapy treatments
to patients and families.
Responsible for the safe management and storage of therapeutic
materials and equipment.
Work within hospice policies, including safeguarding, infection control, and
health and safety.
Maintain high professional standards in compliance with relevant
legislation, including professional code of conduct and data protection
regulations.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide a range of complementary therapies, including holistic
assessments and tailored treatments to hospice patients and their
families.
• Ensure treatments are delivered empathetically, promoting patient
well-being and comfort.
• Liaise with the multidisciplinary team to assess patient needs,
prioritise workload, and share clinical information in line with hospice
procedures.
• Participate in regular team meetings to ensure the integration of
complementary therapies into overall care plans.
• Accurately record clinical notes following each treatment session.
• Ensure all documentation is completed timely and adheres to hospice
standards.
• Maintain the care and organisation of oils, equipment, and therapy
spaces.
• Ensure all tools and materials are stored safely and that inventory is
monitored and replenished when necessary.
• Provide therapies to staff, with clinical lead approval, when patient
demand allows.
• Participate in staff support days and contribute to creating a
supportive work environment.
• Adhere to all hospice policies, including health and safety, infection
control, safeguarding, and confidentiality.
• Complete mandatory training and ensure continuous professional
development through attendance at relevant courses and workshops.
• Take responsibility for your own professional development and
participate in the Hospice Performance Appraisal Process.
