Summary

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Housing Solutions Assistant, to work for our client in London and surrounding areas.

Overall Purpose

To undertake a structured training programme and develop the skills required to deliver the Council’s statutory homelessness duties. The role focuses on assessing housing need, preventing homelessness wherever possible, and providing appropriate housing solutions for individuals and families. The post holder will build expertise to manage complex cases, including those subject to legal challenge.



Key Responsibilities of Housing Solutions Assistant:

1. Housing Advice & Casework

Assess housing needs in line with homelessness legislation.
Conduct homelessness interviews and investigations.
Develop and maintain Personalised Housing Plans(PHPs).
Provide tailored advice to help customers:
Remain in their current accommodation, or
Access alternative housing options.
Manage cases from prevention through to relief and final duty decisions.
2. Homelessness Prevention

Actively intervene early to prevent homelessness.
Explore all available housing solutions, including:
Private rented sector
Social housing and housing register
Supported accommodation and hostels
Shared ownership or relocation options
Work with customers to sustain tenancies and resolve housing crises.
3. Legal & Policy Application

Develop knowledge of key legislation, including:
Housing Act 1996
Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
Children Act and Care Act
Prepare and issue statutory decision letters.
Support reviews, appeals, and legal proceedings where required.
4. Customer Support & Safeguarding

Identify and respond to customer support needs (e.g. mental health, substance misuse).
Make referrals to specialist services and partner agencies.
Provide advice on rights, responsibilities, and housing-related issues.
5. Record Keeping & Systems

Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records and documentation.
Use housing systems to track cases and report performance data.
Ensure compliance with data protection and information governance.

Working hours:36 hours per week, remote work (3 days in office)

Requirements of Housing Solutions Assistant:

Educated to Level 4 standard or equivalent experience (desirable).
Awareness of housing and homelessness issues.
Experience working:
In a team environment
With customers/service users
To deadlines and performance targets
Experience of accurate record keeping (including IT systems).
IT literate and able to maintain accurate records.
