Summary


This is a 10 PA post based in Gedling and Hucknall, CMHT. The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide clinical and medical leadership to the MDT and will lead the assessment and treatment of patients under their care for the Gedling and Hucknall catchment area. In 2023 the over 65 population for Gedling and Hucknall was 26000. The total population of Gedling was 117, 300 at the 2021 census.

Over the past year to June 2024, Gedling and Hucknall service team received 600 referrals, with referrals triaged as IHTT, MAS, DOS or CMHT. The Consultant Psychiatrist will be expected to work in a consultative way, providing advice and the opportunity for case based discussion for the wider MDT. The post holder will carry a compact caseload of the most complex cases.Currently there are approximately 100 patients on the case load. The post holder will have two outpatient clinics per week and see 1 new patient and 4 follow-ups in each clinic. The post holder will work along side a less than full time consultant, who carries a case load of approximately 76, does a weekly outpatient clinic and offers consultation and advice to other team members. You will share the responsibility for the weekly MDT.



Clinical cross over is provided by the CMHT consultants and there is flexibility with other community consultants to cover annual or study leave.

The post holder will be expected attend CMHT clinic; complete the occasional home visit and attend any relevant patient meetings (e.g. CPAs). They will be expected to maintain good relationships with patients’ families and carers. The Consultant Psychiatrist will also assess and treat their patients in line with evidence based clinical practice, whilst observing the Trust’s clinical pathways and governance procedures. The Consultant will model good prescribing practices for this patient group in accordance with national guidance.

· Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive old age psychiatry service for the CMHT,

· Clinical responsibility for the patients in the post holder’s charge, including the diagnosis and treatment of patients within the sector,

· To liaise with other services, such as Primary Care, Social Services, RRLP, IHTT, DOS and Domiciliary and Voluntary sectors to facilitate patient care.

· To provide medical leadership for the multi-disciplinary team leadership for Gedling and Hucknall CMHT



· The provision of medical/psychiatric assessments to inform care planning and risk assessment



· The completion of administrative tasks related to clinical responsibilities



· To maintain good clinical records using Trust’s electronic record system



· To maintain a revalidation portfolio and participate in annual appraisal



· Undertake a job plan review with the Clinical Directors annually



· Maintain professional registration with the GMC and approval as an Approved Clinician and Section 12(2) approved doctor



· Compliance with Trusts agreed policies and procedures



· Clinical supervision of resident medical staff
