KS1 Class teacher Maternity Cover – September 2026 to April 2027
Thank you for your interest in the post. I trust you will find all the enclosed information helpful.
Kirkstall St Stephen’s is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School with close links with the local church. It is a friendly, popular school and very much part of the local community. There are currently 203 pupils on roll.
In our recent Ofsted Inspection (October 2023) we were judged to be a good school with very clear indicators of how we could improve still further to become an outstanding school. The most recent church school’s inspection judged us to be outstanding. It is our ambition to continue to improve and become an outstanding school in all areas.
We are situated in a built-up area of mixed housing in the northwest sector of this thriving city. The school is within walking distance of Kirkstall Abbey, Abbey House Museum, the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire. The school is housed in one building, the earliest parts of which date back to 1822.
The school has a strong Christian ethos with a close working relationship with the church. Candidates must be sympathetic to this and help promote the distinctive nature of a church school. All staff participate in Collective Worship and RE is currently taught by a specialist teacher in some classes.
We have very good home/school links and parents are actively involved in the life of the school. The PTA is very supportive of our work, buying valuable resources for the school and raising funds to support a range of educational support and school trips.
We are an inclusive school and the children in our school come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide ability range. The school welcomes children with special needs and English as an additional language. We are a School of Sanctuary and support children and families displaced from their homeland due to a variety of reasons.
We have an excellent team of support staff who play a vital part in the overall success of the school.
We provide a range of extra-curricular activities. Some of these are run by the staff and some are from outside providers. These are an important part of our school life and we would welcome and encourage any new members of staff to participate in this aspect of school life. Please state any strengths or areas of interest on your application.
There are seven classes in school, R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 with an adjoining, private pre-school.
We are looking for ambitious people who will fit into our school team, building on our current strengths and helping us to move forward as a school. A positive attitude, a sense of humour and the capacity to get on with a wide range of pupils are all essential attributes. Similarly, the ability to work towards challenging targets that help to ensure accelerated progress for all pupils while creating learning opportunities which challenge and motivate children is an essential requirement.
We operate a positive behaviour policy and the successful candidate will be expected to be an exemplar of good practice and support both staff and children in dealing with issues that arise.
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all children, and expects our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
This appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check which the school will complete with the successful applicant.
Applications should be made directly to the school and be on a Leeds Teacher Application Form which is included in the application pack for this vacancy.
