Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint from September 2026 an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work with children and young people up to the age of 25 years of age with a visual impairment both in a school environment and across Warwickshire. This means that you could be working with any age group within the school from Early Years Foundation Stage to Post 16. The Exhall Grange V.I department currently consists of a qualified teacher of the visually impaired, an advanced TA practitioner, three specialist level 3 teaching assistants and two habilitation officers. Due to the increase in pupils with a visual impairment we are seeking to grow the team.
The role will involve providing interventions both within class and outside of the classroom in a wide range of areas from the V.I curriculum framework.
The successful candidate will be able to fulfil the essential criteria for this position which include the following. A full list can be found in the Job Description:-
• Hold a recognised and relevant qualification a NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent)
• Hold an advanced V.I. practitioner qualification
• Have a minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grades A-C or Grade 4-9
• Have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs
• Have considerable experience of working to support pupils learning across the V.I. curriculum framework
• Have a full UK driving licence with access to their own vehicle with business insurance
• Have Manual Handling training or be willing to undertake immediate training
• Understand and be able to work with Care Plans
• Have a knowledge of specialist equipment, its uses and operation and the ability to demonstrate to other e.g. braillers, embossers
• IT skills sufficient to use computerised technologies to provide VI resources
