Full-Time | Early Finish Fridays

Thorn Baker are recruiting for a Play Area Maintenance Operative / Groundworker to join a local council’s Green Spaces team based in Ilkeston.

This is a varied, hands-on role ideal for someone with experience in groundworks and play area maintenance, who takes pride in delivering safe, high-quality public spaces.

Hours:

• Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00
  
• Friday: 07:30 – 12:30
  

  Pay:

  • Weeks 0–12: £12.71 per hour
    
  • Weeks 13–52: £13.26 per hour
    
  • Weeks 52+: £13.47 per hour
    

    Duties include:

    • Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing play areas and equipment
      
    • Installing play equipment and street furniture
      
    • Carrying out groundworks including mixing and laying concrete and tarmac
      
    • Using hand and power tools safely and effectively
      
    • Ensuring all work meets safety standards and regulations
      

      What we’re looking for:

      • Experience in play area maintenance, groundworks, or similar
        
      • Street works tickets (preferred)
        
      • Abrasive wheels certification (preferred)
        
      • Skilled in using hand tools and general site equipment
        
      • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all conditions
        
      • Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work as part of a team
