Summary
Preston Park are looking for a committed and experienced Safeguarding Officer to join our proactive team.
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Safeguarding Officer to join our welcoming primary school community. This vital role is at the heart of ensuring every child feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. You will take the lead on safeguarding and child protection, working closely with staff, families, and external agencies to promote a culture of care, vigilance, and early intervention.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safeguarding practices, excellent communication skills, and the confidence to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and compassion. You will be responsible for managing safeguarding concerns, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with statutory guidance.

This role is term-time only and hours of work will be 8:10-4:00pm (30 mins unpaid lunch break), 5 days per week.
Responsibilities will include:
Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, supporting child protection and safeguarding processes
Monitor, track, and improve pupil attendance and punctuality, addressing persistent absence
Build and maintain strong relationships with parents/carers to support pupil wellbeing and achievement
Deliver parent workshops and provide guidance to increase engagement in children’s education
Work collaboratively with staff, senior leaders, and external agencies to support vulnerable pupils
Manage referrals, admissions processes, and support pupil transitions into school
Maintain accurate records, case notes, and safeguarding/attendance data
Conduct meetings, home visits, and follow-ups with families to address barriers to learning
Line manage attendance and welfare-related staff
Promote a positive partnership between home and school to improve outcomes for pupilsThe safeguarding Officer role is varied and interesting with opportunities to further develop professional skills. Essential Criteria:
GCSEs (Grade A–C or equivalent) in English and Maths
Enhanced DBS clearance (required)
Significant experience working with children, families, and external agencies
Experience engaging hard-to-reach families and supporting vulnerable pupils
Experience of line managing staff
Understanding of the education system, child development, and how children learn
Awareness of current issues affecting children and young people
Familiarity with school data systems (MIS)

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
Organised, able to prioritise workload and make decisions under pressure
Confident, assertive, and able to work in a non-judgmental manner

Empathy and understanding of children with complex emotional, social, or behavioural needs

Actual Pro Rata Salary: £30,377.00 - £32,079.00 plus £2,029.00 London weighting (this will be dependent on any continuous service)
