Summary


To work within the Mother and Baby Unit as a valued member of the multi-disciplinary team providing and contributing to high quality nursing care for mothers experiencing acute perinatal mental health issues and their babies.

To work as a named nurse being responsible for the risk assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of emotional and physical care needs for mothers and their babies over a 24-hour period.

Under the overall direction of the Ward Manager, maintain high standards of care and be professionally responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of a multidisciplinary programme of care.

Maintain a supportive leadership profile for Ward Manager, Deputy Ward Managers and the multidisciplinary team.

Monitor, report and maintain a healthy, safe and secure workplace by knowing and taking account of: Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), Reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations (1985), Control of substance Hazardous to Health (1985), European H&S Regulations (1992)-Numbers 1-6, Food Act (1996), Adhere to Trust policies and local service protocols.

Support the work of the MDT by:

· Will work within their professional code of conduct

· Work as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team driving the implementation of the nursing care as per the mother’s care plans, meeting the physical & emotional needs of the mother and baby in a caring and empathic manner.

· Take a leading role in monitoring & maintaining physical wellbeing.

· Work flexibly regarding shift and ward changes according to the needs of the service.

· Affectively record and communicate information relating to mothers.

· Affectively lead and manage a shift delegating duties and supporting the MDT along with unqualified staff, HCAs and students

· Will be aware of the trust values & behaviours and use them to provide a framework for your daily working.

· Undertake any reasonable request within own competencies and understanding

· Act as a named nurse, assess, plan, implement and evaluate care planning & risk assessment with the mother on admission and at appropriate intervals

· Ensure all interventions are documented clearly and comprehensively.

· Communicate with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to effectively utilise resources to help meet the mothers identified needs
