Summary
Main Duties:
• To deputise in the absence a Nursery Manager and/or and to ensure the smooth running of the nursery.
• Key holder responsibility this includes the safe unlocking and locking up of the nursery building
• To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care of the children.
• To implement and adhere to a consistent daily routine both indoors and outdoors that meets the developmental needs of all children.
• To plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for the children.
• To maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage, as well as current issues surrounding the Early Years.
• To understand fully and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures at all times.
General responsibilities:
• To liaise with the nursery manager and deputy on a daily basis promoting good practice throughout the nursery
• To work as part of the nursery team.
• To act in a professional manner at all times.
• To follow all the nurseries administrative procedures.
• To have a thorough working knowledge of the nurseries policies and procedures.
• To assist in the training of students on placement within the nursery.
• To ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
• To assist the Manager and deputy in arranging extra activities including fetes, open days, parent’s evenings, fundraising events and outings.
• To assist the Manager and deputy in the efficient upkeep of the nursery building.
• To assist the Manager and deputy in arranging and setting targets for staff meetings.
• To undertake any other duties appropriate to the position as directed/delegated by the Manager and/or deputy.
• To observe the children and use this information to plan for their future learning and development needs.
• To keep a detailed record of each child’s learning and development needs.
• To regularly update each child’s learning journey documentation.
• To develop and maintain good relationships with parents and provide them with positive feedback on their child’s day.
• To ensure that mealtimes are pleasurable and sociable and that opportunities for the children to gain independence and learn new skills are fostered.
• To ensure that the environment meets the needs of the individual child and promotes the diversity and equality of the modern society that they live in.
• To provide comfort and a feeling of security for all the children.
• To work as part of the nursery team.
• To attend regular staff meetings.
• To attend training courses arranged by the nursery.
• To participate in regular parents’ progress meetings.
• To ensure that high levels of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times throughout the nursery.
• To encourage the children to adopt good hygiene procedures through modeling good practices.
• To ensure health and safety practices are upheld, including identifying risks and reporting them to the Duty Manager.
• To be flexible with working practices and to be prepared to help throughout the nursery when necessary.
• To respect the confidentiality of information about individual children.
• To be familiar with and to follow all the nurseries policies.
• To be good role models to trainees and students and to give support and guidance where necessary.
• To support children’s behavior in a positive manner in accordance with the nurseries behaviour policy.
• To manage and record all accidents in line with current procedures.
