Oak Lodge School is looking for an inspiring and hands‑on Science & Technology Lead Teacher to champion a practical, real‑world STEM curriculum for students aged 11–19 with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs. This role is ideal for an experienced teacher ready to take the next step into middle leadership within a supportive, person‑centred SEND environment.
What We’re Looking For
A practical STEM specialist who can:
• Lead engaging, hands‑on teaching in science, horticulture, food technology, design technology and other vocational pathways.
• Ensure safe, high‑quality delivery of practical subjects, including robust health and safety and risk assessments.
• Design accessible, functional science and technology programmes, including accreditation routes such as Functional Skills and vocational qualifications.
A skilled SEND practitioner with:
• Successful experience working with young people with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs and varied communication profiles.
• Strong understanding of sensory needs, regulation strategies, visual supports, concrete learning and approaches like SCERTS and trauma‑informed practice.
• Ability to adapt content and teaching approaches to ensure highly differentiated, person‑centred learning.
• A Practitioner who can:
• Lead STEM curriculum development across KS3–KS5, ensuring ambitious, meaningful progression.
• Coach and mentor colleagues through modelling, observation and supportive feedback.
• Build meaningful partnerships with families, external providers and local vocational organisations.
A committed professional who brings:
• Empathy, patience, resilience and a genuine passion for improving outcomes for young people with SEND.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• A reflective, collaborative leadership style and openness to feedback.
• Enthusiasm for making STEM accessible, engaging and relevant to real‑world learning.
