Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

Oak Lodge School is seeking a passionate, skilled and forward‑thinking Maths Lead Teacher to champion functional maths and help shape an outstanding curriculum for learners aged 11–19 with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner ready to step into middle leadership in a highly supportive, person‑centred environment.

What We’re Looking For A strong maths specialist who can:

• Demonstrate excellent maths subject knowledge, especially functional and practical numeracy.
• Deliver and develop Entry Level and Functional Skills accreditation pathways.
• Create engaging, real‑world maths learning experiences that promote independence, vocational readiness and confidence.
• A skilled SEND practitioner with:

• Successful teaching experience in a specialist or special school setting.
• Deep understanding of learners with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs, including communication and sensory profiles.
• Strong ability to adapt the curriculum, use scaffolded teaching and incorporate sensory, visual and therapeutic approaches such as SCERTS and regulation strategies.
• Knowledge of SEND legislation, EHCP processes and person‑centred planning.


A developing leader who can:

• Take ownership of maths curriculum development across KS3–KS5.
• Coach and mentor colleagues through observation, modelling and constructive feedback.
• Support whole‑school improvement and contribute to high‑quality teaching and learning across the school.
• Collaborate confidently with senior leadership and external partners.


A reflective and committed professional who is:

• Empathetic, patient and dedicated to improving outcomes for young people with SEND.
• Motivational, resilient and able to inspire students and staff alike.
• Organised, communicative, flexible and driven by inclusive values.
