About the role…
As a Project Manager, you will oversee the planning and delivery of a varied portfolio of projects within the water sector. You will ensure alignment with client expectations and organisational objectives while acting as the senior coordination point between Operations and the wider business. The role focuses on programme planning, stakeholder engagement, performance management, and ensuring the safe, compliant delivery of all project activities. You will drive continuous improvement, challenge inefficiencies, and ensure all projects meet agreed KPIs, SLAs and delivery milestones.
In this role, you will:
Develop, promote and maintain a strong safety culture with full compliance to industry standards and regulations
Be accountable for end‑to‑end project delivery, ensuring Time, Cost (at delivery level), Quality and safety objectives are met
Lead planning, coordination and execution of project works, maintaining accurate programmes and progress controls
Manage and mitigate operational risks, escalating issues that impact programme performance or client outcomes
Analyse performance data to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities
Act as the senior operational interface with clients and internal leadership
Ensure client expectations are met through proactive communication and relationship management
Provide clear, accurate project updates and governance documentation to the Operations / Framework Manager
Work collaboratively with the Senior QS to support forecasting, financial reporting and commercial governance
Monitor delivery performance against commercial targets and highlight risks, variations or impacts
Develop and maintain resource plans to ensure capacity and capability align with workload
Manage supply chain partners and act as an escalation point for performance issues
About you…
Required Qualifications & Experience
Experience in at least two of the following: Construction, Utilities and/or Framework delivery
Proven Project Management experience
Degree (or equivalent) in Utilities Management, Project Management or a related discipline
Full UK driving licence
Knowledge & Experience
Ability to operate at both strategic and programme level
Strong leadership and people management capability, with experience building and developing high‑performing teams
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Flexibility and adaptability with the ability to develop creative solutions
Strong commercial, financial and analytical skills
Experience delivering objectives within available resources
Proven track record managing different contractual arrangements
Experience delivering project portfolios
Ideally professionally qualified (e.g. APM PMQ, Prince2 or equivalent)
Skills & Personal Qualities
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within Ipsum and client organisations
Excellent communication and time management skills
Professional and positive approach
Self‑motivated, organised and proactive
Flexible attitude and adaptable mindset
Team player with the ability to work independently when required
