Summary
Croydon University Hospital (CUH) plans to appoint a Trust Grade Registrar in General & Vascular Surgery. This post is a middle-grade fixed term position for an initial period of 6 months. This term can be extended.
The postholder will participate in a resident full shift pattern 1-in-12 middle-grade on-call rota covering General Surgery, including 12-hour day and night shifts, and including the provision of care for ambulatory surgical patients.
The candidate will be expected to integrate within and work alongside the team of existing consultants in the Vascular and General Surgery departments, as well as work within multidisciplinary teams including healthcare professionals. The candidate will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of day-to-day Vascular surgery services. These include daily ward rounds, review of inpatient referrals, outpatient clinics and theatre lists under the supervision of the Vascular Surgery consultants. The trust works within a “hub-and-spoke” network based at St. George’s Hospital.
Essential criteriafor the post include full GMC registration, MRCS qualificationandprevious experience of working within the NHS. This does not include clinical attachments.Applicants without these criteria will not be considered and need not apply.Previous experience in Vascular surgery and working at middle-grade level are desirable.
This post is not an approved postgraduate training programme under the auspices of Health Education England (HEE). However, post-holders can be supported with aspirations for both CESR qualification and FRCS examination on request.
This is a fixed term position for an initial period of 6 months, but on agreement with the department and supervising consultant, this term can be extended.
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon.
These include:
• Croydon University Hospital
• Purley Hospital
• The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre in Thornton Heath
• Community bases at Purley, Sanderstead, New Addington, Broad Green, Woodside
• A minor injuries unit in New Addington

To provide general, endocrine and vascular surgical support in both emergency and elective services. General Surgery, Endocrine and Vascular Surgery service and this includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department. Responsible for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness. The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to make to infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role. These requirements are set out in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and in local policies and procedures which will be made clear during your induction and subsequent refresher training. These standards must be strictly complied with at all times.
