We're looking for an experienced Subject Matter Expert (Application Support) to play a pivotal role in supporting a suite of complex, business critical applications that underpin essential operational services across our Government Services portfolio.
This is a hybrid role, with flexibility on where you work, but you'll be required to travel to our Coventry office as and when business requires. What we're looking for:
You'll bring strong analytical thinking, excellent problem‑solving ability, and a positive, proactive approach. You'll be comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels and enjoy getting hands‑on with complex technical issues.
Essential experience
• Minimum 4 years' experience in an Application Support environment (supporting bespoke and COTS applications)
• Strong, proven SQL skills (Microsoft/Oracle) at SME level
• Knowledge or exposure to Azure services such as Logic Apps, Runbooks, Dashboards and Kubernetes
• Solid 3rd line and application support background
Desirable experience
• Experience working in an ITIL environment
• Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills
• Familiarity with: Windows OS, RHEL, MS‑SQL, PowerShell, Azure KQL, SFTP, XML, SOAP, IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ, ElasticSearch, Octopus, Jasper Reports
What you'll be doing:
As an SME within our specialist Applications team, you'll join a group of highly skilled experts who manage and support a range of bespoke and COTS applications. Reporting to the System Support Team Leader, you'll take ownership of application performance, stability, and continuous improvement across a fast‑paced environment.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, driving improvement, and collaborating with colleagues, developers, and suppliers to keep complex systems performing at their best.
What you'll be doing
• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for key applications and associated technologies.
• Provide second‑line and specialist escalation support for the Front‑Line and ASET teams when required.
• Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate manual tasks, reduce costs, reduce time and deliver effective Problem Management outcomes.
• Take ownership of application‑related issues, working collaboratively with programme, developers and external suppliers to ensure timely and robust resolution.
• Lead and coordinate technical reviews with suppliers, ensuring quality, accountability, and alignment with operational needs.
• Lead and contribute to projects and change initiatives, providing expert technical input throughout the lifecycle.
• Work closely with the Environment Manager to maintain environmental consistency and ensure applications remain aligned across all environments.
• Perform detailed system and data analysis to investigate, diagnose, and resolve reported application and data issues.
