Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic skilled pre-operative or surgical experienced nurse who would like the opportunity to broaden their clinical skills into a band 6-7 development position as a POA CNS nurse.
We offer a progressive environment with the support of a team and the department based clinical practice Facilitator.
The Pre-Operative Assessment unit is a welcoming, diverse and exciting department with a passion to deliver world class care to all our patients.
We pre-assess more than 300 patients weekly. This nurse led clinic supported by consultant anaesthetists is a fast-developing service with a vision for expansion over the coming months. We offer the opportunity to rotate between pre-operative assessment, day surgery and PACU (post anaesthetic care unit) to enhance your peri-operative skills and experience.
We provide adult pre-operative assessment for patients undergoing operation under general anaesthetic and/or sedation and regional anaesthetic for a range of surgical specialties.
The unit serves in an outpatient capacity from Monday to Friday, seven and a half hour day. We are closed on weekends and bank holidays. The clinic hours are divided into two shift patterns. An early shift from 08:00hrs to 16:00Hrs and a late shift from 10:00Hrs to 18:00Hrs.
To liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary team to advise and support colleagues in the delivery of specialised care across professional boundaries.
The post holder will be a skilled, autonomous practitioner with expert knowledge in pre-assessment
To undertake complex surgical pre-operative nurse led clinics, being responsible for excellent standards of nursing care to patients through the planning, coordinating, and delivering of these clinics.
To contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care pathways for patients attending pre-operative assessment to ensure patients are appropriately optimised and fit for surgery.
To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through reviewing the evidence base and embedding this in practice through engagement in research activities.
Attend Multi-disciplinary team meetings, acting as patient advocate and contributing to shared clinical decision making.
