Our Opportunity We are looking to enhance our specialist team in our unique setting. This role has been created to support in NEST, our EAL provision for newly arrived young people seeking asylum and refuge. We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic, hardworking and flexible Teaching Assistant to join our team of dedicated staff. You will be an experienced mainstream Teaching Assistant, ideally with knowledge of EAL and may have previously worked in a specialist education setting. An understanding of EAL will be essential and you must be able to respond and adapt to the wide-ranging needs of our young people. You will be required to ensure the safety of our young people and facilitate their access to learning by responding to individual needs. You will use your excellent interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with the young people who are aged between 15 - 19, and then assess the attainment and progress of our students, to help them succeed. You will be working as part of a welcoming and highly specialised team supporting whole class lessons, group work and working one to one with young people. You will also be required to cover lessons in the event of staff absence. You will be part of a committed staff team who are motivated every day by improving the life chances of our young people; the majority of whom are separated, care experienced young people. Knowledge of one or more of our community languages ie. Farsi, Kurdish or Arabic is desirable. Strong skills in English and maths are important.
