Student Counsellor

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Newcastle College is looking for a compassionate and committed Counsellor to join our Central Support Service team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support the wellbeing, resilience, and success of our students by delivering high quality, person centred counselling and contributing to whole college mental health initiatives.


As a Counsellor at Newcastle College, you will play a key role in helping students overcome challenges that may impact their learning or personal lives. You will provide confidential 1:1 counselling across all curriculum areas and contribute to group activities that promote positive mental health and wellbeing.


Your work will support a culture where students feel safe, supported, and able to thrive. You will also contribute to safeguarding processes, collaborate with internal and external partners, and help shape our approach to mental health support through training, campaigns, and resource development.


We're looking for someone with:

  • A degree or significant experience in Counselling as well as Level 2 English and Maths
  • Experience of counselling in an educational environment
  • Experience of counselling people with special educational needs or disabilities
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
