Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, dedicated, and close-knit first opinion veterinary practice in Norwich.
This role is ideal for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for leadership, mentorship, and clinical governance, or for someone looking to take the next step into a Head Vet / Clinical Lead position.
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving clinical standards, supporting team development, and improving practice performance, while delivering exceptional patient and client care.
About the Practice
The practice is located in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, offering easy access to both the coast and Norwich city centre.
Facilities include:

The successful candidate will be supported by an experienced Senior Practice Director, Head Nurse, and a highly skilled veterinary team.

Key Responsibilities
The Head Veterinary Surgeon will:
• Deliver high-quality first opinion consultations, diagnostics, and surgical procedures
• Lead and promote clinical excellence, governance, and best practice standards
• Conduct and oversee clinical audits to improve team performance and patient outcomes
• Investigate and manage clinical incidents and client complaints, using them as learning opportunities
• Mentor and support veterinary colleagues, fostering a positive, no-blame culture
• Drive improvements in clinical and commercial performance
• Communicate effectively with clients regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up care
• Ensure excellent inpatient care and clinical handovers
• Collaborate with leadership to develop and expand practice services
• Monitor KPIs such as average transaction value and diagnostic rates
Candidate Requirements
• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS registered)
• Experience in first opinion practice
• Strong clinical skills in medicine and surgery
• Previous leadership experience desirable (but not essential)
• Interest in clinical governance, mentoring, and team development
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Commercial awareness and a proactive mindset
