Summary
Contract Type: Permanent
We have an exciting opportunity for a Planning Officer to join our busy development management team and help to deliver development that creates beautiful, distinctive and sustainable places whilst ensuring that there is a strong future for our built and natural heritage as part of our dynamic City.
You will benefit from working in a friendly, supportive and motivating team of planning professionals, whose skills and experience will not just complement yours, but will expand your expertise into all kinds of associated specialist areas, such as heritage, landscape management and trees.
The role will involve a stimulating balance of diverse casework and appeal work. In your skills set, you will be highly organised, technically knowledgeable and ideally have or be eligible for professional membership of the RTPI. It would also be necessary for you to have a sound working understanding of planning legislation, be an effective negotiator, and be able to work as a partner with our enforcement team. Most importantly, you will need to be able to communicate complex matters clearly including a wide range of topics such as sustainability, design and heritage. You will also need to have an ability to work diplomatically and build excellent working relationships with customers, elected members, consultees, colleagues, stakeholders and local communities.
As a planner in a rapidly growing City with a diverse mix of urban and rural areas including coastal and former port communities, we will also expect you to have an ability to seize the enhancement opportunities that arise from our ambitious urban renaissance programme and from the development of the Council’s own extensive land/property portfolio. We are passionate about customer service and achieving the right outcomes through a positive approach and an eagerness to work in partnership collaboratively with customers and stakeholders.
