About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking an experienced and committed SENCO with teaching responsibility to join a supportive, inclusive school within our client network. This role focuses on raising achievement and ensuring high‑quality provision for pupils with PMLD, SLD, and other complex learning needs, ensuring they can access engaging, meaningful learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership
- Support and uphold the school's ethos, policies and inclusive vision for pupils with significant learning needs.
- Use a range of assessment data to set targets and drive pupil progress.
- Build strong, supportive relationships with parents, multi‑agency professionals, and the wider community.

Teaching & Learning
- Identify and implement effective teaching strategies for pupils with PMLD and SLD.
- Monitor and support teaching approaches to ensure high‑quality, individualised learning.
- Promote independence and essential life skills for pupils with severe and complex needs.
- Liaise with other schools and services to support smooth transitions for pupils with SEND.

Assessment & Progress
- Establish robust systems for identifying, assessing, and reviewing progress of pupils with SEN.
- Set clear achievement targets and monitor data effectively.
- Keep parents fully informed about progress, targets and curriculum updates.

Staff Leadership
- Lead and support Teaching Assistants providing 1:1 care for pupils with additional needs.
- Arrange and deliver professional development opportunities for staff.
- Promote and share good SEND practice across the school.

Professional Standards
- Keep up to date with national and local SEND developments and assess their impact.
- Maintain high professional standards, confidentiality, and a collaborative team culture.

Person Specification

Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- SEN qualification (or currently working toward one).
- Minimum four years of recent teaching experience.
- Strong understanding of SEND Code of Practice and inclusive strategies.
- Experience managing or leading staff.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Successful experience teaching pupils with diverse and complex learning needs.

Desirable
- Additional specialist SEN qualifications.
- Experience in a specialist provision or special school.
- Experience completing SEN/EHCP documentation.
- Experience working with pupils with profound and complex needs.
