National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Technician to join our highways teams based in either Telford, Birmingham or Nottingham but, working directly from our Telford office, to lead and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the facilitation of Technical Surveys.

Aiding the development of schemes for our Capital Works Programme consisting of renewal roads, improvement, and technology schemes throughout the region.

This role will have a hybrid working approach, where typically you'll spend 2 days per week in the office and 3 days working from home. During the probation period 3 days in the office or more as required.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have a full driving license to be considered for this position and during employment.

  • Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.
  • Collaborate with Engineering colleagues, SDF Contractors, TST Contractors, Project Managers, Service Delivery Managers and Route Managers to ensure that the technical surveys programmes support the regional capital programmes.
  • Process survey packages, facilitate the delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets.
  • To support the capture and maintenance of roads asset data and condition information in the relevant database(s) GIS Mapping systems, in line with agreed standards and timescales.
  • Ensure correct cost capture across all contracts, support preparation of survey forecasts, associated risk profile and processing of payment applications.
  • Develop the technical survey briefs provided to the design and construction contractors for improvement, renewals and technology work.

About you

  • Knowledge of Design Manual for Road & Bridges (DMRB), Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) standards, Chapter 8 and their application on the highways network
  • Experience in highways construction and delivery methods (high-speed road Trunk Road/ Motorway Networks).
  • Good knowledge of CDM 2015, CSCS Card Holder, SSSTS or SMSTS Certificate essential.
  • Higher national diploma/certificate or other relevant qualification with relevant experience or working towards.
  • Experience in Auto CAD/ArcGIS (desirable).
