Summary
To provide prosthesis and instrument housekeeping for Theatres, particularly to Trauma, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Ears Nose and Throat and Urology.
Overseeing Theatres stock and Implant rooms, responsible for the reporting of all Theatre Medical Devices, Maintenance and Repairs to the correct department, whether that is internal (EBME / Skanska / Housekeeping /IT Support) or external suppliers.
Works within Standard Operating Procedures and Policies of Theatre Stores Department.
To liaise with Theatre Equipment Manager, Theatre Equipment Officer and Theatre Sisters in any other duties pertaining to ordering implants and stock management.
To identify and implement cost improvement opportunities/ efficiencies within the scope of the role.
Conform to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Health & Safety in line with the Trust Policies and Procedures.
To support Theatre Stores personnel to meet the needs of the service.
To undertake initial incident investigation and work collaboratively with Theatre Management Team to ascertain cause and actions required.
This role will work independently, although under the supervision of Theatre Management Team and Equipment Lead.
This role works often unsupervised, within clearly defined procedures using own initiative on routine decisions to organise and manage the stock requirements of Theatres.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Stock Room
· To order all consumables held in Theatre Store rooms, to allow for uninterrupted theatre activity.
· Working with Theatre Stores Operatives to monitor stock implants e.g., Par levels and expiry dates.
· Monitor consignment stock.
· To liaise with Theatre Equipment Manager, Theatre Equipment Officer, Patient Access, Trauma Co-ordinators and Theatre Sisters in any other duties pertaining to ordering implants and stock management.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010, and ongoing upgrades ensure the Trust now has state-of-the-art facilities, including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. A new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
Communication and Relationships
· Encourage department staff to maximise cost effectiveness where there are conflicting priorities, using standard operating procedures.
· Liaises with suppliers regarding delivery commitments/returns and consignment changes.
· Liaise with Inventory management Team regarding orders, deliveries, and returns.
· Liaise with General Office, Theatre Sisters, company reps and external hospitals to arrange short term borrowing and loaning of consumables.
· Regular contact and collaboration with Theatre Team Leaders and Theatre Manager.
· Attend relevant meetings in relation to Stores and Procurement.
· Update and Reviewing Implant Room Procedures.
· Liaise with relevant stakeholders, including EBME, Skanska, General Office, Housekeeping, IT Services, Procurement, Sterile Services, Clinicians and Senior Management.
Responsibility for Patient/Client Care
· Incidental contact when working in departmental areas.
Responsibility for Policy/Service Development
· Implements policies for own work area and proposes policy or service changes which impact own area of activity.
· Comments on changes to policies in own sphere of work.
Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources
· Maintain stock control and ensure security of stock where appropriate.
· Maintains stock at agreed levels.
Responsibility for Information Resources
· Data entry, text processing, storage of data especially for loan equipment and implants record.
· Theatre Stores receipting/returns/materials management data on computerised systems, files data.
· Undertake projects within Theatre Stores in collaboration and approval of Theatre Manager.
· Maintain databases relating to historic stock movements.
Responsibility for Research and Development
· Participates in formal audits of own areas.
SECTION 2- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
· Understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, some of which are non-routine, which require a base level of theoretical knowledge. This is normally acquired through formal training or equivalent experience.
· Knowledge of clinical procedures, stores processes and replenishment and maintenance of stock.

· Analyses data regarding stock levels, orders, deliveries, receipts, or dates.
Planning and Organisation
· Plans, arranges, and adjusts, e.g., stock review meetings, delivery, or collections windows.
· Responsible for own workload, with autonomy as appropriate, using specialist knowledge, skills and experience required.
· Cross site co-ordination for urgent transfer of implants and instruments off site following standard operating procedures.
· Co-ordinating any new stock of implants and instruments with company representatives, relevant Trust departments
