Summary
Communication and working relationships To ensure patients and visitors are treated with courtesy, dignity and respect The position requires empathy and tact when dealing with people who may be upset or angry To ensure a good relationship is maintained across all departments throughout the hospital and an ability to communicate with all members of the multi-disciplinary team Analytical and judgement Exercise personal responsibility and work independently within defined parameters of practice and their scope of competence, taking the initiative in a variety of situations, consistent with their role, responsibilities and professional values. Planning and organisation To provide reception service for all patients and visitors to the ward including sickness and annual leave cover. Some flexibility required This includes filing in hospital notes and filing of notes Ensure that the patient hospital computer systems are kept up to date Support the ward and clinical staff in a range of administration tasks To ensure that all Discharge Summaries are completed and sent out in line with Trust policy Excellent organisational skills required Physical skills Demonstrate keyboard skills to support their own learning and entering information into the patient record system. Manual handling skills for carrying and lifting (notes and stationary). Patient and client care Welcome the patient into the unit. Escalate any concerns to the clinical staff. Policy and service development To ensure that private & overseas, Scottish/Welsh patients are identified and documented appropriately and the Private Patient Officer notified in accordance with the Trust Policy To be aware of and update knowledge of Hospital Policies and Procedures from the Trust intranet Finance, equipment and other resources No financial responsibility but an awareness of the cost of resources and the responsibly use of resources. People management and training There is no people management Able to support new starters and provide training for them. Information technology and administrative duties Ensure that all patient records and investigation results are available when required by the nursing and medical staff Liaise with other departments, secretaries and wards beds and patient management as required Book hospital transport if needed. Request routine maintenance for estates Ordering of stationery and supplies on unit 4 Escalate CPS delays. Research and development Engage with local audit in their clinical areas focused of maintaining and improving standards. Freedom to act Work autonomously, in line with Trust policies and standard operating procedures under the direction of the designated Registered Healthcare Professional (HCP) Raise concerns or any matter outside of their scope of competence, to the appropriate person
