Summary

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Pharmacy Services Deliver high-quality patient care in line with GPhC Standards for Pharmacy Professionals Document, maintain, and communicate effective, safe working practices and SOPs Ensure safe supply and dispensing of medications via online platforms, private prescriptions, NHS services, and remote consultations Provide medication counselling, identifying potential drug interactions, and liaising with prescribers to optimise drug safety and prescribing Collaborate with the hybrid manager and colleagues to optimise medication ordering, prevent shortages, and consider profitability Manage and dispense private prescriptions as appropriate Perform controlled drug balance checks and dispensing Provide over-the-counter advice and guidance Follow SOPs and complete governance paperwork Advanced Pharmacy Services NMS, DMS, CPCS Pharmacy First Blood pressure checks, including 24-hour ambulatory monitoring Contraceptive services Flu and Covid vaccinations These services may be delivered to walk-in patients or via referral from Downland Practice care coordinators and healthcare professionals. Private Pharmacy Services Travel vaccination services Private prescriptions Private flu and Covid vaccinations Development and management of additional private services Staff Management Provide clinical supervision and professional leadership to the hybrid pharmacy team Recruit, train, and supervise Pharmacy Dispensers and Pharmacy Technicians Work closely with the dispensary team to maximise cost-effective prescribing and improve patient care Business Development Assist GP partners with monitoring and managing prescribing budgets Develop and manage medicines management plans and patient services in line with practice policy and guidance Liaise with wholesalers and short-liners to optimise profitability with support from the Profitability Lead Dispenser Prepare evidence-based resources for the medicines management team Support the introduction of new processes to optimise prescribing quality Administration Claim services and complete end-of-month pharmacy reporting Complete the Pharmacy Quality Scheme Maintain prescription records in accordance with GPhC and legal requirements Liaise with dispensary and finance managers for purchasing and stock management Oversee financial management and drug profitability for pharmacy services Produce quarterly reports for the lead GP on medicines management Report and action SEAs and near misses with learning feedback to the team and MDT Maintain accurate patient medication records and document advice/action taken Advise on safe handling and storage of controlled drugs, maintaining compliance with legislation Communication Communicate effectively with team members, patients, and carers Adapt communication methods to meet individual needs Confidentiality Respect patient privacy and confidentiality in all aspects of work Handle sensitive information relating to patients, staff, and practice operations appropriately Health & Safety Lead and promote health and safety and infection control for self and others, following practice policies and procedures Equality and Diversity Support the rights of patients, carers, and colleagues Respect privacy, dignity, beliefs, and circumstances Behave in a welcoming, non-judgmental, and professional manner Personal/Professional Development Participate in training programmes and annual performance reviews Maintain records of personal and professional development Take responsibility for own learning, development, and performance Quality Identify and report issues of quality and risk Assess own performance and take accountability for actions Reflect on team activities and contribute to improvements Work effectively with external agencies to meet patient needs Manage own time, workload, and resources efficiently
