Summary


Positions available at Northern Cancer Centre Carlisle.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established nursing team in both our Whitehaven Chemotherapy Suite West Cumberland Hospital, and the Northern Cancer Centre, Carlisle. Your preferred site of work will be determined during the interview process.

Due to our expanding service, we can now extend our team with further full/part time positions.

The role will involve administering systemic anti-cancer treatment and supportive therapies to patients on the chemotherapy unit. Full training will be given on the unit and fully supported to achieve internal chemotherapy competencies. On completion of training there will be opportunity to work across both Carlisle and WCH chemotherapy sites if desired.

• You will need to have excellent communication skills and be confident at communicating with patients who are facing a life limiting illness. You will need to be confident in communicating with all members of the multi-disciplinary team at all levels.
• We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in caring for patients with cancer, who is keen to develop this and continually progress the service. You will be expected to complete cannulation and venepuncture and access central lines, in house training will be provided. You will be required to complete pre assessment and triage when SACT competent. You will need to be able to demonstrate the Trust Values within everyday work.
• You will need to be a registered nurse, aware of relevant/current professional issues. It would be desirable to have completed an oncology course and have experience of working with cancer patients but not essential.
• Accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high quality patient care in the Chemotherapy Suite environment.
• Trust training period and completion of SACT Passport.

• Accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high quality patient care in the Peri-Operative environment.
• Provide effective support to both patient and carers throughout their care pathway.
• Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students, participating in mentor and preceptorship programmes
• To abide by Trust policies and procedures.
• Provide support for and depending on experience deputise for nurse in charge in their absence.
• Act as patient advocate in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code / Health and Care Professions Council standards of conduct, performance and ethics.
• Work collaboratively as an effective member of MDT.
• Participate in 24 hour on call service when appropriate to role.
