At our Learning Disability Day Service, we are committed to providing high‑quality, person‑centred support for adults with complex learning disabilities. We offer care on a 1:1, 1:2, and 1:4 basis, ensuring every person receives respectful, dignified support regardless of gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity and inclusion is the key to our success. Reading Borough Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to the recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities.

About the role:

Full Time - 37 hours per week - 8.45am – 4.15pm (Monday - Thursday) and 8.45am - 3.45pm (Friday) – No weekend work required.

In this role, you’ll play a vital part in shaping a user‑led, empowering, and fulfilling Day Service where each person can grow, connect, and achieve meaningful outcomes.

As a Senior Support Worker, you will lead with confidence by professionally supervising, appraising, and supporting staff, while overseeing daily operational delivery. Manage performance effectively and guide your team with clarity and compassion to ensure a positive and productive working environment.

As a Senior Support Worker, you will:

Acting as a role model for best practice and supporting the team with day‑to‑day tasks

Administering medication, providing personal care, moving and handling and maintaining accurate records
Supporting with training, mentoring new staff, and promoting a positive team culture

Ensuring safeguarding and regulatory standards are upheld at all times

Exceptional client care and effective communication skills are crucial, along with a comprehension of the principles of exemplary practices in residential care and an awareness of the challenges faced by individuals with complex needs. Induction and training will be offered.

You’ll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability. As well as the colleagues that you work closely with every day, you’ll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.

Our vision is to ensure that Reading realises its potential as a great place to live, work and play, and that everyone shares the benefits of this success. Our values and behaviours guide how we will achieve this:
Work Together as one team - work collaboratively, with each other and with our partners, and demonstrate the Team Reading values in everything we do.

Make a Difference to Reading - maintain the highest levels of customer service and be flexible and willing to provide the services needed at the time they are needed.

Our offer:
We offer a supportive environment to grow and develop your career with the opportunity to put your ideas across. Innovation and ambition are strongly encouraged, and you’ll get a great feel for that working in our friendly and collaborative environment.
