Summary
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
12‑Month Fixed Term Contract
Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to make an impact in a fast‑paced, highly innovative environment? Our client an industry‑leading organisation working at the forefront of regulated technology and precision engineering is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their multidisciplinary team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the detailed mechanical design of a complex electromechanical product, working closely with scientists, engineers, and project managers to deliver high‑quality, production‑ready solutions.
The Role
In this position, you will take ownership of mechanical design activities from concept development through to manufacture. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading detailed design of electromechanical components for a high‑precision, regulated device.
- Evaluating design options, assessing trade‑offs, and clearly documenting engineering decisions.
- Planning and executing experiments and test activities to validate assumptions and reduce technical risk.
- Collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners, ensuring strong communication throughout.
- Managing technical risks through structured risk analyses and implementing effective control measures.
- Developing and transferring tooling, fixtures, and test equipment into manufacturing.
- Producing high‑quality design documentation-drawings, models, performance data, and prototype inputs-with a strong focus on manufacturability.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with candidates who have:
- Proven experience delivering mechanical engineering projects, ideally in electromechanical systems, automation, diagnostics, or precision engineering.
- Strong background in robust design, testing, and manufacturing oversight.
- Solid understanding of DFM principles, specifically for machined metal and injection‑moulded parts.
- Experience with quality control requirements for serial production, including testing and measurement.
- Confidence working with suppliers, manufacturers, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Chartered or working toward chartership is advantageous).
- 5+ years' experience in mechanical design, with a clear track record of delivering products and leading project work.
- Proficiency in creating detailed mechanical calculations and technical documentation.
- Strong CAD expertise (SolidWorks preferred), including modelling, simulation, and producing technical drawings.
- Experience working within ISO13485 quality systems
- Analytical mindset with excellent problem‑solving and experimental design skills.
- Strong communicator with the ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
