We have an exciting opportunity to join National Monitoring, based at the Leeds Laboratory in our Inorganics Analysis Team. If you’re passionate about the environment and people and want to develop your leadership skills as part of a Laboratory Management Team, this could be the role you are looking for.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to lead one of our Laboratory based analytical chemistry teams. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your Laboratory Management skills in one of our dedicated environmental Laboratories.

You'll need to identify and prioritise the big risks, give clear direction and support to your team. You’ll ensure outputs are timely and of appropriate quality. Building and maintaining productive relationships with colleagues, locally and nationally, and contractors and suppliers will be at the heart of your role.

You'll oversee work planning, recruitment, as well as ensure the teams personal development and health, safety & wellbeing is a priority. You'll need to be flexible and adaptable to changing work priorities.

In this non-hybrid working role, you'll join our Leeds Management Team and broader leadership teams; leaders on site and across our three laboratories who are committed to help make the Environment Agency an even more fantastic place to work. You'll share good practice and ways of working, identify opportunities for the business and ways to realise them.

Your ongoing personal development is important. You will have the opportunity to gain further skills and knowledge to complement and enhance your capabilities as an effective leader within the organisation.

The team

The Leeds Management Team leads the operations of the laboratory, with the Inorganic Chemistry team analysing environmental samples for a wide range wide range of chemical and sewage pollution. The site receives samples from across the Environment Agency, as well as from other public and private bodies.

The data produced by Monitoring Laboratories, supports the Environment Agency and its EA2030 aims.

Experience/skills required

Experience of leading people and managing wellbeing effectively.
The ability to motivate people to deliver to their full potential and meet our corporate targets.
Good understanding of health & safety risk management.
Experience of working with a range of internal and external customers delivering excellent customer service.
Experience of managing performance fairly and effectively.
Ability to prioritise tasks and quickly adapt to changing situations.
Experience in working in an operational laboratory setting is essential.
Working within ISO quality standards, preferably ISO 17025
