Summary

We are looking for an experienced Community Chef Cook to help shape and deliver our Stir It Forward project. This is not just a kitchen job. We need someone with solid professional cooking skills who can also bring people with them, share knowledge, and turn food into something bigger than a meal.

This role will involve preparing and producing fresh food within our new premises, making the most of available ingredients, reducing waste, and creating meals, sauces, bakes and simple, affordable options that support the wider work of the organisation. It will also involve delivering practical, hands-on cooking sessions around slow cooker meals, healthy eating, budgeting, and making food go further in real life.

We are looking for someone with strong, relevant experience in a professional kitchen, with the confidence to manage prep, stock and service, and a solid understanding of food safety and kitchen systems. You should be confident cooking from scratch and able to adapt to what is available. Bread, cakes and scones are a key part of this role, and we are particularly looking for someone who can bring creativity and quality to baking. We want our baking to stand out.

A Level 3 Food Hygiene certificate is preferred. Level 2 as a minimum will be considered alongside strong, proven kitchen experience. A clear understanding of allergens, cross-contamination and HACCP-based food safety procedures is essential.

Just as important, we are looking for the right person. Someone grounded, creative, organised, and confident communicating with a wide range of people. Someone who understands that this role is about food, but also about dignity, inclusion, confidence and connection. Experience in care, support or community work would be valuable, as would lived experience that brings understanding and empathy to the role.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Monday to Friday, with occasional evening work for events.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview followed by a practical cooking session.
