Applications are invited for the post of a Specialist Grade based at Colchester Hospital
The Departments of Oncology is within the ‘Oncology & Haematology Clinical Delivery Group’ of the ‘Cancer and Diagnostics’ Division.
The role is envisaged to be Breast/Colorectal. However, if the candidate has a special interest in certain tumour sites, it could be considered as part of the job plan.
The job plan will be reviewed annually. It will cover all aspects of a Specialist Grade professional practice including clinical work, research and education. In addition, it will include personal objectives, details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the doctor to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.
10 PA’s will be offered. A minimum of 8.5 PA’s will be for direct patient care and 1.5 PA’s for SPA. Expected commitments will include:
Multi-disciplinary ward meeting
New patient clinics
One or more chemotherapy review clinics
One or more follow-up clinics
Support to Radiotherapy units and Chemotherapy day units
Ward consultations
Other ward rounds
Attendance at relevant site-specific MDTs
Audit, research, CPD, appraisal and revalidation
In addition for Specialist doctor role:
Acute oncology service support (one or more sessions)
Expertise in clinical procedures such as pleural and ascitic drain placement would be beneficial

CLINICAL
Board & Ward Rounds
Expectation to support the daily board and ward rounds as part of timetabled activity.
Acute Oncology Service
There is an 8am-6pm Acute Oncology Service Monday to Friday, run by nurse specialists who are supported by an Oncologist every weekday. This role will also offer some support.
Joint Clinics
The Departments are run along site-specialised lines with all tumour sites treated by Multi-Disciplinary teams of which the Oncologists are an integral part. MDT’s are held in all tumour sites according to IOG and have all been peer-reviewed.
Research
Active participation in research and clinical trials is encouraged and will be supported by a dedicated clinical research team.
Management commitments
Individual MDTs have business meetings, the appointee will be expected to attend, along with network-based meetings that are relevant to their site-specific practice.
