Summary

Respiratory Direct Clinical Care (DCC) 8 PAs Inpatient work: overseeing patients Respiratory/GIM patients on Pyecombe ward and allocated medical outliers. The inpatient ward cover is on a rotational basis with three PRH consultants (including this post) and the 10 RSCH based consultants. Consultants undertaking ward duties are expected to provide daily senior review of inpatients, assess new admissions to the ward, and lead a daily Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) board round from 08:45. In addition, consultants provide specialist respiratory advice and inpatient consultations as required. Outpatient work: two outpatient clinics per week, comprising one general and one specialist respiratory clinic. The precise clinic allocation will be tailored to the interests and experience of the successful applicant. Clinic templates typically allow 30 minutes for new patients and 15 minutes for follow-up appointments. All consultants contribute to providing clinical advice to the wider respiratory multidisciplinary team, including via a specialty Advice and Guidance email service for GPs. Shared clinical administrative duties include referral triage. On-call commitment: includes participation in a 1:8 General Internal Medicine on-call rota for evenings and weekends (see above for details). The frequency of on-call duties is under review and may reduce following recent and planned workforce expansion. The Acute Medical Take operates under the Acute Medicine team between 09:00 and 16:00. Consequently, weekday on-call duties primarily involve the review of patients not seen by an acute physician after 16:00. Overnight on-call is non-resident, with a post-take ward round conducted the following morning (see above for details). Weekend commitments include mid-take ward rounds on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with post-take ward rounds on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (see above for details). Consultants remain on-call from home between ward rounds. The on-call frequency and category remain subject to ongoing workforce review. On-call commitment is currently remunerated: 1:8, Category B (2%). This is subject to workforce review and potential reduction to Category B (1%). The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis. Please see the job description and person specification attached to the advert for further details of the post.
