Summary

The post aims to givea tier 2 paediatric doctor (ST4 and above) who isinterested in pursuing a career in neonatal medicineor paediatricsan opportunity to undertake an educational role with protected time and training(50% WTE). The role involvesmulti-disciplinaryneonatalsimulation. The post also includes regular responsibility within the clinical neonatal rota(50% WTE)at middle grade level at Birmingham Womens Hospital. The post is for 1year (commencingSeptember 2026). The Health Education West Midlands is supportive of trainees taking time out for opportunities such as this as long as it leads to a significant development, including peer-reviewed publication or higher degree. Prospective approval for appointment to these posts will need to be obtained. This post would involve some orall ofthe following areas: Simulation teaching : Birmingham Womens Hospital has just opened a dedicated Womens and Neonatal Health Simulation Suite witha state of the artfully immersive simulation room utilising the latest simulated projector technology. This will involveworkingwith the medical & nursing leads in the preparation, planning and delivery of neonatal multidisciplinary simulation training at BWH(50% WTE role). Assessment of the impact of simulation training on patient outcome, staff confidence & competence and develop the programme accordingly.Work with the education lead in delivering regional simulation teaching within the deanery education programme(including the ST1 skills day), as wellthe SHINE (Simulation HelpingInNeonatal Emergencies)and Advanced SHINEneonatal simulation study day, Neo-CCCom-S (communication simulation day)and a Palliative Care simulation day.We aim to become leaders in simulationtrainingand this fellow role will be integral to this.There will be the opportunity to leadsimulation basedprojects, the experience of which we aim to present and publish,thereby allowing the fellow to further develop their skills. NLS/ARNI: BWH host several NLS courses each yearand the education fellow will become part of our NLS faculty if qualified NLS instructor. Education qualification: There will be anopportunityand fundingtogain formal simulation instructor training, and potentiallystudy towards a postgraduate medical education qualification,depending on individual motivation.This postprovidesa truly valuable opportunity for an enthusiastic,organisedand ambitious trainee to receive clinical and educational training with continuity of ownership of many aspects of our neonatal education in a large perinatal centre.
