Summary

The WorldPop research group, within the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of Southampton is an award winning, multi-sectoral team of researchers, technicians and project specialists working on producing data on population distributions and characteristics at high spatial resolution. WorldPop | University of Southampton

WorldPop has a diverse portfolio of projects, including large multi-million-pound collaborative projects with partner organisations, such as the Gates Foundation, the Gavi Vaccine Alliances, UN agencies, commercial data providers and other international development organisations.

We are seeking to recruit a Finance Manager to provide effective financial management to WorldPop’s activities. Operationally the post holder will oversee the WorldPop Group finances, seeking to provide financial advice, guidance and management information of funded projects. The post holder will work closely with other areas of Finance supporting the process for the approval of costings and contracts and acting as the focal point of contact for all research and enterprise contracts and international project partners.

As a successful Business Partner the post holder will work with the WorldPop Senior Leadership Team developing a financial sustainability plan for WorldPop helping the group achieve its strategic financial objectives.

The successful candidate will have experience in financially managing externally funded projects working as part of a programme team and should be able to demonstrate significant knowledge of accounting standards. Candidates with previous experience in higher education accounting, internationally funded project reporting, budget setting and reconciliation will be looked on favourably.

A flexible working pattern at a minimum of 80% full time equivalent will be considered for this role. The successful candidate will be line managed by the Deputy Head of Faculty Finance and work under the supervision of the WorldPop Programme Manager and Director at the Highfield campus of the University of Southampton. The position is currently funded for 24 months with a strong likelihood of extension.
