Summary


The department seeks to appoint a Senior Renal Cancer Fellow (CCT level) for a fixed term of 1 year to this fellowship. The Oxford renal cancer unit is one of the UK’s highest volume renal cancer centres and performs over 150 renal cancer surgeries every year. The department is able to offer open, laparoscopic and robotic renal cancer surgery. It is also the UK’s only centre for renal autotransplant and specialises in complex renal cancer surgery in patients with solitary kidneys. The hospital offers a thermal ablation service for appropriate renal tumours. Training is also available in retroperitoneal lymph node dissections and retroperitoneal sarcoma surgery, where Oxford provides a tertiary referral centre for these specialist surgeries.



Subspecialist fellowship training is available in all aspects of renal cancer surgery (open including IVC/lap/robotic). This post will also provide paid protected time to undertake formal research in renal cancer. Primarily this will involve use of AI in renal tumour imaging.

Several trials (WIRE and Partial) are presently open in Oxford and the successful candidate can get involved in recruitment for these

The appointment is on a whole-time basis but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.







Principle activities:



ClinicalThe duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The duties of this post include:



a) Working with the members of the Oxford Renal Cancer Group as part of a team to deliver the renal cancer service.

b) Participate in the weekly renal cancer MDT meeting.

c) Working with the Oxford Renal Cancer Group to deliver clinical services if and when required.

d) Participate in a weekly specialized renal cancer clinic.

e) Participate in the 1:8 Urology emergency on call rota

f) Participate in General Urology Clinics

g) Participate in morning ward rounds.

h) Taking on a lead role in planning, projecting, conducting, and publishing of several research projects relevant to the service

i) Being responsible in updating and actioning of the BAUS renal cancer audits

j) Ensuring up-to-date and accurate administrative and medical records as required,

k) Supervision and teaching of junior doctors and nurses as required.

l) Acting as a tutor for medical students and deliver clinical teaching related to general surgical topics as required.

m)Maintain an accurate logbook of educational, research and clinical activities
