Summary

We are relaunching our Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Watford Hospital in close partnership with our Emergency Department, creating a more integrated and responsive model of urgent and emergency care for our community. As part of this work, we are expanding our Children’s Emergency Department team and are looking for motivated, compassionate Band 5 Staff Nurses to join us.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a service that is developing, improving, and shaping the future of urgent paediatric care at West Herts.

This isn’t business as usual. We’re creating a service that is safe, child centred, and forward thinking — and we want you to be part of its next chapter.

At West Herts, momentum matters. We are proud to have been recognised nationally with:
• HSJ Trust of the Year
• HSJ Performance Recovery Award

These achievements reflect the dedication and teamwork of our staff, and our commitment to delivering outstanding care for children, young people, and their families.

This relaunch brings the opportunity to deliver high quality emergency and urgent care to children and to be part of positive change across our front door services.
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse in the Children’s Emergency Department, you will:
• Provide safe, timely, family centred nursing care
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for children with a wide range of acute presentations
• Support improvements that enhance patient flow and experience across CED and the UTC
• Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective clinical decision making
• Contribute to innovative practice and new ways of working within paediatric urgent and emergency care
• Help maintain a positive, calm and supportive environment for children, young people, families and colleagues

We’re looking for nurses who are enthusiastic about paediatric emergency care, committed to learning, and ready to make a meaningful impact during a period of exciting development.
With a new hospital planned for Watford, work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital and plans for a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead, this is an exciting time to join us.

We are building on the success of our award-winning virtual hospital and re-imagining models of care, working closely with partners and making the most of advances in digital healthcare.

Staff wellbeing and development are a priority, as is the role of innovation in improving clinical care, outcomes and patient experience.

Our vision is Excellent patient care, together and our values are to be empowered, compassionate, professional and inclusive. They capture an important balance across what we must all do as individuals and to support others.

We offer a variety of flexible working options as we recognise the importance of a good work life balance. www.westhertshospitals.nhs.uk/flexibleworking
